Summer and Fall
Landscape photography from the northeastern corner of the USA.
Seasonal shifts happen fast in northern Maine and this year has flown by amid political chaos and massive distractions. We put a new roof on our house and then my partner was furloughed from his government contractor job. I’m doing some volunteer work, job searching and wrapping up teaching a photography workshop at the Colorado Photographic Art Center. I enjoy working with adults on creative process but having the flexibility to do things like that comes from having a spouse whose job supplies health insurance and a steady paycheck. I’m planning on teaching a couple more in the spring but haven’t settled on times and dates yet.
Escape is on my mind but I’ve already tucked myself into the farthest northeastern corner of the USA as you can get. As much as I would love to relocate to someplace like Finland or even to our neighbor Canada, I also want to see things turn around here at home in the USA. Photography is a grounding practice for me, a way of appreciating what is beautiful in the ordinary places around me. It is also a way of focusing my attention on things that are more timeless than politics, less worrying than economics.
Here are some images from this summer:

Here are some more recent ones from fall. We’re wrapping up foliage season here and turning towards stick season, which has been getting longer with climate change.

Be well and take care of yourselves and your loved ones.

Always love seeing your work, Morgain, and am glad you’re not moving to another country. We need you here to document and witness the ‘isness’ of it all. Thank you.
Oh, I love the transition from summer to fall in this sequence of images ❤️
